I am Phyllis Webstad

I am brave and selfless.
I wonder why people made the residential schools.

I hear people scared and afraid.
I see people listening to my story.
I want people to tell their stories.
I am brave and selfless.

I pretend that I still have my orange shirt.
I felt pained when I lost my orange shirt.
I touch my tears when I remember the past.
I worry that all the Indigenous people will disappear.

I cry when I remember my parents.
I am brave and selfless.

I understand that people are scared.
I say “Indigenous people should be respected.”
I dream that everyone will live in peace.
I try to encourage people.
I hope that the residential schools are never rebuilt.

I am brave and selfless.
