Ottawa's Festival of Ideas Since 1997

I am David Thompson

I am smart and curious
I wonder how big Canada will be

I hear the water from Hudson Bay

I see the York Factory
I want to be a good fur trader
I am smart and curious

I pretend nothing hurts
I feel pain in my right leg
I touch my sextant when I make maps

I worry that I’ll die in a snow storm
I cried when I left the Siska people
I am smart and curious

I understand how to make good maps

I say, “I hope I finish my masterpiece.”

I dream of beautiful maps of Canada

I tried to finish my book
I hope someone will see my maps
I am smart and curious
