How to make your story visual
A Workshop for Young Writers and Illustrators
You want to tell a story. But maybe writing a novel seems too big a task. What would happen if you took out the words and thought visually? What is left? How can you get across the heart of your story with images, dialogues, and captions?
Looking at examples from graphic novels, we’ll explore how characters, mood, and pacing can be shown without words.
You don’t have to be able to draw –– this is a workshop for writers. But it’s also a workshop for artists who want to know how to structure a story visually. We’ll create storyboards and make quick sketches with stick figures to experience your narrative through different points of view. How do your characters respond physically? How do they interact with their setting? Can you see their moods? How can you make scenes speed up or slow down?
No matter what kind of storyteller you are, this workshop will give you new insights into your characters, the world they live in, and how to make your stories exciting and fresh.
