Amanda West Lewis is the author of eight books for young readers, ranging from craft books to historical novels, and has an MFA from Vermont College of Fine Arts. She is also a theater director, calligrapher and drama teacher and the founder of the Ottawa Children's Theatre.
Hands-on 2 hour workshop: How writing a graphic novel can kickstart your writing
Feeling a bit stuck with your writing? Need a boost? This workshop will send sparks into your scenes, characters, pacing, and settings. No matter what you are writing, you’ll discover new ideas for your Work in Progress or perhaps find a whole new genre for your story.
Using simple, stick-figure storyboards, we’ll explore seeing your character’s reactions through their physicality. How can you use close ups and distance shots to affect the scene? How do the characters interact with their setting? How can setting become another character in the story? How does a storyboard reflect the pacing of your scenes?
You don’t have to be able to draw –– this is a workshop for writers, not illustrators. It's about experiencing your story through different points of view in a different medium. Whether your goal is to write a graphic novel or to find hidden nuance in your story, this workshop will give you new insights into your characters and the world in which they live.
