Twisting Reality: Hiding in Plain Sight with Charles de Lint, Gary Blackwood and Cheryl Rainfield

“Scars [by Cheryl Rainfield] is a brave novel, a read-in-one-sitting-except-when-you-have-to-put-it-down-to-breathe novel.”

Ellen Hopkins, author of Burned, an ALA Best Book for Young Adults

For our first event of 2013, the Writers Festival spotlights YA!

Teens and young adults are some of today’s most voracious readers, but up till now they haven't often had the chance to meet the men and women behind the books. The Authors

Charles de Lint

Charles de Lint and his wife, the artist MaryAnn Harris, live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. His evocative novels, including Moonheart, Forests of the Heart, and The Onion Girl, have earned him a devoted following and critical acclaim as a master of contemporary magical fiction.

Cheryl Rainfield

Cheryl Rainfield's YA novel Scars was a Governor General's Literary Awards finalist, and her new novel, Hunted, has been nominated for the Monica Hughes Award for Science Fiction & Fantasy. Drawing heavily from her own experience, Rainfield's masterful narratives are realistically gritty, intense, and emotional—but also fantastical and paranormal. She comes to Ottawa with Hunted, a dystopian fantasy starring Caitlyn, who is telepathic in a world where such powers are illegal and must decide between hiding who she is or standing up for her kind against a corrupt government.

Gary Blackwood

First published when he was just nineteen years old, Gary Blackwood is the authors of the ALA Best Book for Young Adults The Shakespeare Stealer, as well as stories, articles, plays, and nonfiction works that explore realities as disparate as Elizabethan England and parallel earths. Blackwood's newest book, The Imposter, follows teenage Ryan as he impersonates the long lost son of a dying millionaire, and tries not to lose himself along the way.
