Strengthening the transnational aspects of collaborative research in the areas of participation, community engagement, and international development through critical, inclusive, participatory and decolonizing research.
Bring your lunch and join us for an informal presentation featuring a local researcher engaged in participatory projects with children and youth!
Her areas of research include inclusive education, disability studies, human rights, international development and participatory visual methodologies. Thuy has published her work in numerous peer-review journals, including Disability and Society, Childhood, Foucault Studies, International Journal of Inclusive Education, and Girlhood Studies: An Interdisciplinary Journal. She is the author of The Journey to Inclusion (2015, Sense Publishers).
During the lunchtime talk, Nguyen will be discussing “Transforming Disability Knowledge, Research and Activism” (TDKRA), a collaborative project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) from 2016 until 2020. This project focuses on engaging women and girls with disabilities in three disadvantaged communities in Hanoi, Thua Thien Hue, and Can Tho, Vietnam in participatory research as a way of building local knowledge and developing activism in support of their inclusion.
