The Adventures Of Prince Achmed Silent Film and Live Music
In Person Film/Stage MusicDubue [is} irrepressibly omnivorous in the pop-music sense, and almost manically driven to make music.
We are pleased to be partnering with Lost Dominion Screening Collective to bring The Adventures Of Prince Achmed (1926) to the big screen. This 35mm tinted print from Milestone Films will be accompanied by a live music score composed by Mike Dubue and Holger Schoorl. Just the way it would of been presented in 1926.
The Adventures of Prince Achmed, the oldest surviving animated feature, was written, co-directed and animated by Lotte Reiniger. She invented a style (Silhouette Animation or Shadowette) which involved manipulated cutouts made from cardboard and thin sheets of lead under a camera. The technique she used for the camera is similar to Wayang shadow puppets, though hers were animated frame by frame, not manipulated in live action. The original prints featured color tinting.
