Catherine Parr Strickland was an experienced writer who first work was published in 1818; her writing helped to support herself and her family financially after her father’s death. She married half-pay Lieutenant Thomas Traill and emigrated to Upper Canada in 1832 to homestead in the bush.
Discussion of Catharine Parr Traill, The Backwoods of Canada
All are invited to this second meeting of a new reading group dedicated to creating a new conversation around important Canadian primary sources. The group will meet six times per year at a convenient downtown location. Newcomers to Canada are especially welcome, and the main requirement is simply a willingness to read, listen and share.
Please RSVP to victoria.j.solan@gmail.com so we give an approximate head count to the cafe.
PS/FAQ: Yes, you can come to the meeting if you haven't finished the book. There's no exam, and some of the books will be long. Instead, I simply ask that you will have read enough to listen and contribute to the conversation. And no, you don't need to attend every meeting to be part of the group. Feel free to join us whenever the topic interests you and your schedule permits!
