The Art of Vanishing is a fascinating glimpse into the intersection of art, class, and the complexity of adult friendship. Through intricately clever prose, Lynne Kutsukake reveals resounding universal truths about creativity and humanity.

Join us for a conversation on art and love, and the way both alter how we experience the world, with Lynne Kutsukake, winner of the Canada-Japan Literary Award and Sarah Henstra, winner of the Governor General’s Literary Award.

The Art of Vanishing by Lynne Kutsukake is the story of a young woman struggling to see and be seen; of authenticity and art; of the thin line between loyalty and obsession. An intimate, explosive story of creativity and friendship between two young Japanese women set in 1970s Tokyo.

The Lost Tarot by Sarah Henstra begins when Theresa Bateman, a junior art historian in Toronto, receives a single tarot card in the mail. The image is unmistakably the work of celebrated avant-garde artist Lark Ringold, and its discovery would mean a breakthrough in Theresa’s career. Why was the tarot card sent to Theresa? How can she prove its connection to Ringold when her art-world superiors declare it a fake? And who has been holding onto it for all these years—and why?
