Sadiqa de Meijer writes poetry, essays, and short stories, and is currently Poet Laureate of Katarokwi/Kingston. Her poetry collections are the award-nominated Leaving Howe Island and The Outer Wards. Her book of essays, alfabet/alphabet: a memoir of a first language, won a Governor General’s Literary Award. Her writing has been published internationally in literary journals and magazines. Her themes include landscape, migration, language, families, racism, art, and spirituality. She is currently working on new collections of poetry and essays.
