Born in Melbourne, Australia, Janette Turner Hospital moved to Brisbane in 1950, where she attended school and university. Since 1967, she has lived in U.S., Canada, India, England, and France, but she returns to Brisbane every year. Her work includes The Ivory Swing, which won the Canadian Seal Award for Best First Novel, Charades, The Last Magician, Oyster, and most recently, Due Preparations for the Plague.
