Caroline Shepard, author of Off Centre, which was shortlisted for the 2005 Danuta Gleed Award, spent her childhood in Winnipeg. She has since lived in Ontario and Quebec, with periods of work, study and travel in the USA, the UK, Europe, and Botswana. She spent many years working in the field of international development and social justice, and in 1992 she left her position at CUSO to write full time. She is currently at work on her second novel. She lives and writes in Ottawa, with frequent escapes to a cabin in the Gatineau, and an annual pilgrimage to Bay Fortune PEI.
