William Ospina was born in Padua, Tolima, Colombia in1954. He studied Law and Political Science, but dedicated his life to literature and journalism. He lived in Europe between 1979 and 1981, and has lived in Bogota since his return to Colombia. In 1996, his essay 'Where is the yellow strip?' mobilized Colombian intellectuals to protest against corruption and violence. William believes that Colombia can overcome its tragedy only through culture and education. His many publications include Los nuevos centros de la esferea, Hilo de arena and El pa’s del viento and Mestizo America: The Country of the Future.
