Judith Katzir was born in 1963 in Haifa, Israel. She studied General Literature and Cinema at Tel Aviv University. She is currently an editor for Hakibbutz Hameuchad/Siman Kriah Publishing House and teaches Creative Writing at Tel Aviv University. She began publishing short stories in the Israeli press in the 1980s and has been awarded literary prizes for both individual stories and her collection, Closing the Sea. Her books are outstanding bestsellers in Israel, and she was awarded both the Platinum and the Golden Book Prizes, by the Book Publishers Association. Katzir was awarded the Prime Minister`s Prize for literature (1996), and the WIZO Prize in France for Matisse Has the Sun in His Belly (2004).
