Joy Hooton is a retired academic from the University of New South Wales. She is one of the three authors of the award winning Oxford Companion to Australian Literature. Her best known works are the critical study of women's autobiographies, Stories of Herself When Young and an anthology, Australian Lives. Her most recent book, Leavetaking, is a historical novel which takes place from 1838 to 1843 and follows one man's journey from Canada to Australia.
