Taha Hassan, 13, is a grade 8 student at Pleasant Corners Public School in Vankleek Hill. He immigrated to Canada from Pakistan in 2000, where he attended school up to grade three and won numerous awards in studies, speeches and writing contests. In Montreal, for three years, Taha studied in French and then moved to Hawkesbury to acquire studies in English. He was a member of the team that won 1st place in the Upper Canada District School Board Think Bowl Competition. Recently, he won 2nd prize in the Canadian Authors Association National Capital Writing Contest for his story "The Laudable History Beyond Time". He is a corporal at the local army cadet corps, and recently won Best Overall Cadet Award. He was a kata silver medallist in 2002, and presently holds a blue belt in karate. Taha's favorite hobbies include reading, playing chess, skating, biking, and playing soccer.
