BÉa Gonzalez was born in Vigo, Spain, and immigrated to Canada as a child. Following studies in Spain and in Toronto, she completed an M.A. in European Literary and Historical Studies at King's College, University of London. Her first book was the critically acclaimed novel The Bitter Taste of Time. While writing her most recent book, The Mapmaker's Opera, she served as a discussion leader in the Don Quixote course in the Classical Pursuits program at the University of Toronto. She lead a group to study the works of Garcia Lorca in Seville in 2004.
